Not far from the Gas Lamp Quarter lies Balboa Park with an array of activities for children and attractions in an urban park setting. Hiking, busy squirrels, beautiful scenery, an array of museums, gardens, and architecture are part of the ambiance of this park. Rent bikes and ride the trails.

Seaport Village

Walking from the Gas Lamp Quarter brings you to Seaport Village, with free admission, musical events, shopping, outstanding dining and 14 acres of activity. Fun for the kids, a carousel, bakery, and an artist who draws caricatures are all part of the excitement. Adults will love the wonderful harbor views and delightful dining experiences. Free Sunday concerts as well as diverse live music in the food court make this experience a memorable one for the visitor.

Petco Park

Watch a baseball game with the San Diego Padres in this nearby stadium, which also hosts fireworks displays. Eat peanuts and hot dogs and enjoy the day, especially with kids.

Lily Pond and Botanical Garden

See over 1,200 tropical plants in a domed, glass structure within the Botanical Building in Balboa Park. With koi to be seen in the pond, it is great fun for all. Orchids, ferns and more can be viewed here. Bring your camera for great photos.

Balboa Theater

An historic theater for vaudeville and movies, the Balboa Theater was built in 1924. With beautiful architecture and fountains as well as ballet, theater, musicals and performances, it a close to the Gas Lamp Quarter and well worth visiting for its history and happenings.
